Wimbledon, The Yankees, and The Fourth of July

As the holiday weekend comes to a close, I want to give shoutouts to the events that have made this weekend spectacular:

1. Congratulations to Serena Williams for winning the Women's Singles title at Wimbledon on Saturday. This is her 13th Grand Slam title and I couldn't be prouder of her.  I can't wait to see what Ms. Williams will do at this year's US Open.

2. Another round of congratulations to Rafael Nadal on winning the Men's Singles title at Wimbledon on Sunday. This is Rafa's 8th Grand Slam title and another amazing feat to happen to Rafa was being named the World's No. 1 this weekend as well. Good luck at the US Open Rafa.

3. This week has been big for the NBA as talks between LeBron James and Cleveland, Miami, and NY continue. Likewise, D-Wade and Chirs Bosh continue negotiations as they look for prospective teams as well. One good thing to happen to NY in terms of basketball was the acquisition of Amar'e Stoudemire to the Knicks. Fellas I wish you all the best in your endeavors and we'll be seeing you in the fall.

4. As America celebrated its 234th birthday on July 4th, former Yankee owner George Steinbrenner turned 80 years old and in honor of his birthday, the Yankees pulled out a show stopping performance. The Yankees rallied all the way until the bottom of the 10th inning where, fresh off the DL, Marcus Thames won the game with a shot up the middle to the outfield. To celebrate, Burnett pied Thames and somewhere in Florida, Mr. Steinbrenner smiled just as we all did in the blazing sun.

That's all for now but don't fret because as long as sports doesn't sleep, my fingers won't stop writing.

P.S. Send Nick Swisher to Anaheim for the Final Vote for the All-Star Game via this link. You have to copy and paste this link into your search bar.
